Travelling abroad with family while you are trying to run an online business can be both lots of fun and very challenging. This summer I am in Finland with my family and my goal was to only work for an hour each day during the three weeks I would be away from home. I had to consider our travel schedule, the availability of internet while we were travelling through several countries, and the demands of family life while you are on vacation. Let's take a closer look at each of these. Because I live on the West coast of the United States, there is a ten hour time difference when I am in Europe during the summer. This means that my days and nights get mixed up and I am likely to wake up at two or three in the morning with an idea for an article, blog post, or new information product. I have found that my writing down all of my ideas in a notebook and then going back to sleep, there is less of a chancehardcover writing Enjoy Life Notebook I will be exhausted by the middle of the afternoon and need a nap. You could utilize this same strategy, no matter where you travel with your family. Having Internet access while in foreign countries can be hit and miss. Sometimes I am expecting there to be a connection and there is none, while at other times the connection is a powerful one even in remote areas. Instead of having to think about this each day, I tend to write whenever I get a chance and then upload files in batches once I have a connection. This saves me time in the long run and allows me not to be frustrated at situations I have no control over. My goal is to spend time with my family and not obsess over my work. Being able to work while you're on the road is a true gift, so enjoy the time and see the sights. By only allowing myself one hour each day to work on my business I am giving them the gift of my time as we travel to new destinations. Especially the grandchildren are most appreciative of this, and our time together each summer strengthens the bonds we have built up over the years. You can see the rewards of spending time with your family and limiting the amount of time you spend working. Put a plan in place before you leave home, have a support team, and know that your business can definitely survive you being on vacations for at least a few weeks each year.
